After Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), protests erupted in IIT Guwahati against the suspension of an assistant professor of the institute.
The students of IIT-Guwahati staged a candlelight protest march in the campus against the suspension of the assistant professor in the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, Brijesh Rai.
Hundreds of students of the institution had joined the protest march in support of the professor held on Tuesday night.
The professor was allegedly suspended after he raised his voice against the irregularities that took place in the institution.
The protesters alleged that the higher authorities of the institution had targeted the professor who raised his voice against corruption, irregularities.
The students demanded the suspension be withdrawn.
A research student at IIT Guwahati, Vikrant Singh said, "In one year, about 50 people were illegally employed, Vikrant Singh said.
So many cases, corrupt practices happened in faculty selection. Some persons were denied to appear in the interview board saying that you don’t have required years of experience. In terms of staff selection, you can’t imagine the level of corruption. About 50 got employed in one year illegally. They appointed about 50 people from the waiting list, Vikrant Singh.
